If you wear contact lenses then there are some steps you need to follow in order to prevent conjunctivitis (redness or swelling) or other symptoms that are caused by bacterial infections of the eye.
Basic contact lens hygiene is easy to follow and will help to keep your eye healthy.

Prior to placing contacts in your eyes, you need to thoroughly dry and wash your hands. Hands should be lathered and scrubbed for thirty seconds under warm water.

Do not contact a sink bathroom as well are full of bacteria and you may accidentally drop the lens in the sink. Instead work over a table with a mirror and over a clean desk. Open your contact case one side at a time so that you can make sure you don’t accidentally get your lenses mixed up.

Repeat the process for the second one when after the first lens in place. Rinse the case with clean contact lens solution and dump any remaining solution down the drain.

Never touch the tip of the bottle of solution for contact lenses at all. It’s contents sterile and this will help to keep the bottle.

This is especially true if your contacts are in and while you should never rub your eyes. Considerable damage could be caused if you were to scratch the cornea of your eye. Soft contact lenses should only be re-wetted with contact solution, never use water or saliva.

Watch your eyes for buildup of mucus like material. This is an indication of a problem with the contacts and they should be removed and kept out until the problem has cleared up. These give the eye time to heal and prevent contamination of the contact.

You may change contact lens cases once every 3 months. Replaced as directed by your doctor should be contacts Do not wear your lenses longer than recommended by your doctor.
