How To Perform Cleaning On Your Hardwood Floor

10 March 2010 One Comment

Don’t ever use wax for surface finish when it comes to wood flooring. If you notice the problem too late and the stain has gone deeper, you may have to replace the board.

Minor scratches on a floor with wax finish can easily be dealt with by simply re-waxing the surface followed by buffing. Especially prepared touch-up kits are available for treating surface finished floors. You may get the desired kit from any of the specialized shops. It will have hardwood floor cleaner too. Stains caused by foodstuff and chunks should be blotted lightly with a slightly damp cloth and then scrapped off carefully so as not to damage the surface. Use of plastic tools for such an eventuality gives better results.

You should take immediate remedial action if a wax floor gets affected by certain oils or greases as they may cause severe damage to such a floor. Use home varnish cleaning for this. This is how you should treat a floor with wax finish: soak up the material thoroughly from the affected spot with a clean dry cloth or sponge, and in the end clean the surface with another dry clean cloth. Depending on the severity, you may have to do it more than once. You could get over the stains by softly rubbing the affected area , using mineral spirits and tri-sodium phosphate on a piece of clean cloth.
